National Science Week 2026 (Sat 15 - Sun 23 August) kept the library busy, with Storytimes, displays, two SCINEMA film festivals, and a celebration of this year's school theme, Seeds of Science: nurturing science for all.
On Wednesday August 19, some keen young nature lovers and their grown-ups took part in a drop-in, hands-on Seedbombs workshop.
Participants learned all about a fascinating variety of seedpods, as well as how plants grow, reproduce and spread their seeds. Everyone was unafraid to get their hands dirty, using clay to create their own seedbombs, with plenty of opportunity to add imaginative and creative designs.
There was a take-home reward as well: seedbombs filled with regional native wildflower seeds, designed to be tossed into the garden at the first signs of spring, to help create a colourful habitat for bees, butterflies and other important pollinators.
