Our New Mural Celebrates You and Your Library

In May of 2025, a call was made for expressions of interest in creating a new mural design for the library's Level 0 Children's Area, and the successful applicant was Melbourne-based artist Angharad Neal-Williams. The project was funded by the NSW Government through the State Library of NSW Local priority grants.

Angharad's playful and imaginative work, which includes characters popping up over bookshelves, and a sleepy library robo-cat wrapped around a pillar, was officially unveiled in October, and has since inspired compliments and wonder from grown-ups and children alike.

Ms Neal-Williams said, “The mural depicts a series of characters going about their day, with a book by their side, the work celebrates the ways we incorporate the library into our lives.”

Angharad's artwork, incorporating the library's signature shades of purple, can be seen by anyone during the library's opening hours.

We invite you to visit our Children's Area, a space in which to play, read, study, relax and learn.

The mural, as seen from near one end, shows a park landscape featuring people reading while rowing in a river, sitting on a bike, gardening and playing.
