On Thursday April 11th, the library hosted a much-anticipated launch of Andrew Skeoch's Deep Listening to Nature.
Andrew's expertise extends to more than bird identification, and he demonstrated his many field recordings of Australian bird species, while providing illustrated spectrogram analyses of their various calls and behaviour. The audience listened enraptured to crows engaging in call-and-response, and to the calls of superb fairy wrens slowed down to an intelligible speed.
Andrew's book is accompanied by an online soundtrack of over 300 audio recordings, allowing you to experience the sounds he writes about. The library has three copies of Deep Listening to Nature, all regularly out on loan since this launch, but you can reserve your copy and be next in line here.
