The library will be closed from 4pm Tues 24 December and will reopen 10am Thurs 2 January. Enjoy the festive season!
The Little Bang Discovery Club is a hugely popular, fun-filled 4-session science program.
Young children are already great scientists without even knowing it. This hands-on program combines everyday objects and experiences with genuine scientific enquiry methods that children and their accompanying parents will thoroughly enjoy.
To participate in the Little Bang Discovery Club yourself, you can use some items around the house - or if not, items which can be bought without spending lots of money.
You don't have to have everything listed here, but over the four sessions you might use: some blu-tack, some chopsticks, string, pipe cleaners, a ruler, a thermometer, a cork, a small magnet, a magnifying glass, a notebook, a pencil, two plastic cups, rubber bands, a small coat hanger, and a tape measure.
Scientists love to collect things, and sort them, and see what makes them different, and what makes them the same. In Session 1, learn to do it yourself!
How can you tell when two things weigh the same? How many times should you measure something to be sure? Find out in Session 2.
Scientists love to test their ideas! And they love to test them over and over again. Learn about experiments in Session 3.
Session 4 is all about sharing the results of experiments. Scientists love to see if their experiment results are the same for everyone. One way to find out is a Science Fair!
