Symbols of Australia with Richard White

On Monday October, 23rd, the library was delighted to host a crowd of history buffs and iconography enthusiasts, to hear Richard White's illustrated talk 'Symbols of Australia.'

Richard surveyed a range of Australia's national symbols, covering everything from the formal and the popular to the commercial and the humorous. The audience learned about alternative versions of Australia's coat of arms, and changes to the lyrics of 'Waltzing Matilda', as well as flags we might have had, and the popularity of rising suns in Federation Australia.

As we do with all our visiting authors, the library purchased a copy of Richard's book, to make it available for you to borrow. See more details on 'Symbols of Australia', and reserve your library copy here.
