Going Places - Authors on Tour with Sandhya Parappukkaran

On Tuesday, Jan 21, the library had the pleasure of welcoming award-winning author Sandhya Parappukkaran, for a very special storytime session, followed by a delicious Indian-inspired morning tea.

Sandhya's picture books, which include The Boy Who Tried to Shrink His Name and Stay for Dinner, are inspired by her childhood experiences traversing different cultures and are steeped in themes of ‘embracing your cultural identity’.

Sandhya spoke with her audience about how some people use a knife and fork to eat their dinner, some use chopsticks and others use their hands. She also demonstrated some of the many uses of a very large banana leaf.

A huge fan of libraries, Sandhya said “I was the child who maxed out her library card every week. I am a writer today because I am a reader; and I am reader because of public libraries.”

This event, part of Going Places - Authors on Tour, was generously supported by the State Library of NSW, the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund, and the Friends of the Wagga Wagga City Library.
